Something shocked me greatly this week. No it wasn’t that a member of Johnny’s Entertainment was number 1 – that’s a standard week in the Oricon. What shocked me was that AKB48 was third in the charts, but also they had outsold Morning Musume’s previous single “Pepper Keibu” by about 10,000 copies (comparing first week sales. I have to say, my heart is also gradually warming towards AKB48. With all the turmoil in H!P over the last few weeks, it’s hard for fans to figure out what’s going on any more – when the Elders Graduate, will I be a H!P fan? Or an Up Front fan?
But back to AKB48, I quiet enjoyed Oogoe Diamond. It’s fun, it’s upbeat, and the video was a bresh of fresh air in respects to the H!P counterparts of dance shots. In fact the video gives them a diva-less image, makes them seem more like ordinary girls. Maybe this is what Japan’s wota want rather than complex dance routines and sexy outfits? I don’t know, but it appeals slightly more to me than Pepper Keibu.
