OriUp’d Vol2

Last week’s Oricon top 5:

  1. KARA – Jet Coaster Love (122,820)
  2. Tsuyoshi Domoto – Eni o yuite ( 90,685)
  3. SDN48 – Ai, Juseyo (64,020)
  4. UVERworld – MONDO PIECE (45,668)
  5. Morning Musume – Maji desu ka SKA! (33,686)

A rather predictable week from day 2, to be honest, but it’s surprising to see sales back to normal levels after such devastation problems in Japan.  KARA have also had most epic sales of their singles, and as a Brit, it’s traditional to love under dogs, so anyone who outsells an AKB group always gets a thumbs up.

This week is a no brainer number 1, as the B’z release single number 48,  “Sayonara Kizu Darake no Hibi yo” – and I have to admit, it’s fantastic.  I only got into B’z a couple of years ago (through their Ichibu to Zenbu / DIVE double A-side) and it’s actually quite cool how such a veteran rock act can make music which still sounds contemporary enough to chart.  Rock on B’z – I’m not even going to dispute this one is yours.

Above the squabble for fourth, Nana Mizuki has released two separate singles this week which are both selling pretty similarly – “SCARLET KNIGHT” and “POP MASTER“.  SCARLET KNIGHT (anisong for Dog Days)is a more traditional Nana/voice actress single with emotional vocals and a climatic chorus, and is also pushing out its competitor – maybe it’s also got something to do with the single having PV (which the other doesn’t) and features Nana dressed as a nun POP MASTER is a little bit more funky and upbeat than it’s rival.  I can’t really decide which single I like better, it’s a bit like trying to decide whether I like cheese or jam on bread as they’re both pretty different songs by the same artist, but still predictably within her range.

Amid the mass of AKB, KARA, JE and, yes, still, Maximum the Hormone (oh how I love the Japanese music chart), relatively few new acts are jostling for top 10 places this week, including The Birthday with Naze ka kyou wa, Hideaki Tokunaga andAki Toyosaki, who we probably know better as Yui from K-ON, with a sticky sweeet ballad “Haru Kaze SHUN PU” (no, I have no idea what a SHUN PU is either?) who has a long way to go before she can sell like the almighty Nana Mizuki.

So predictable week is predictable?  My favourite new single has to go to B’z, but the PV is boring, so have Nana Mizuki as a nun and “Haru Kaze SHUN PU” because it sounds funny…

A New Year’s Resolution

So in we welcome 2010, and a new year is a fresh start for some.  While some people start making the insane resolutions that they’ll lose 20 kilo’s, not buy anything unnecessary and never drink / smoke / eat chocolate again, after years of trying to do such things myself, I realise they’re impossible.

But, New Year’s is a great time for a clear out, which made me realise something myself – as I deleted 12 drafts from my blog: I need to start finishing what I start.  I hate deleting my drafts, but not half as much as I hate being disorganised, and although some posts had had hours of work on them, I knew in the back of my mind that they’d never quite be finished.

So while we’re on the subject, I’ll bullet point them, delete the waffle and get to what I want to say:

  • 2009, although sad due to Koharu’s graduation, ended with 4 great H!P singles: Ryusei Boy, Party Time, Love x Peace = Paradise and Bravo Bravo
  • My favourite single of 2009 was B’z Ichibu to Zenbu / DIVE
  • My favourite album of 2009 was Perfume’s Traingle
  • My favourite H!P single was Guardian4’s Party Time – I deathlooped it to hell
  • My favourite H!P album was Morning Musume’s Platinum 9 Disc, as long as I skip past it’s you
  • My favourite anime of 2009 was Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

And now my resolution: to start finishing some of these posts!  I don’t have as much time as I used to ~ but I do have some new gizmo’s which will hopefully start helping me out!  And thanks to the support of my friends, my blog also seems to have gained a bit of notice recently – which reminds me, I really need to sort my blog roll out.

But here’s to a better 2010, more H!P goodness, and hopefully, more posts!

  19. Kra – bird (3,899)
  20. AAA – Hide-away (3,726)

Kinki Kids easily grab themselves the top spot.  Great sales also for UVERworld and Nana Mizuki also.  Dissapointing sales for Morning Musume, as this is the second lowest selling single of the band’s career, as well as the last single featuring member Koharu Kusumi.  BoA is down in 8th this week (but she never was a strong single seller).  Lots of singles also still up there from last week (and weeks before in B’z’s case).

Oricon Top 10: 28/10/2009

  1. AKB48 – RIVER (178,579)

  10. KITAGAMI MIMI with MM GAKUEN GASSHOUBU – Daisuki ni Nare! / Kokoro Kimi ni Todoke (11,410)

Amazing results for AKB48 considering sales from hand-shake events are no longer counted.  AAA’s single was being sold as a tripple A-side (or an AAA side?… okay that’s not very funny), although the Oricon has only listed Hide Away, which is the ending to Inu Yasha: The Final Act.  More anime contributions from May’n (Macross F), 2 K!ON image songs and MM Gakuen Gasshoubu!
